This season any extra cows that are milked on the property will be milked with little financial gain, rather seeing a large cheque sent to Fonterra for more shares.
One would hope that the following year will see us benefit to the point that we can start looking at more farm development. It is an ongoing debacle as many of you would know, you replace the tractor and now the digger and truck are worn out, hay sheds need repairing or replacing and so on.
On the farm we have finished the hay at the run-off and it is packed away, fencing continues, we are weed spraying at the moment and making the most of the dry period for moving drains at the back of our property.
Cow production is slowly dropping due to the declining feed quality and heat and other than that it has been quite uneventful through the Christmas and New Year period.
Our deck has been completed which has seen us retreat to the outdoors once again each night for a cold one to contemplate the days disasters. Of which we haven’t had too many lately – touch wood.
