COUNTRY music star Adam Harvey sings the praises of wool in a new free iPad app called Sam The Lamb.
The app is the first in a series of iPad applications to be released by Australian Wool Innovation to promote the wool industry.
The multi award-winning singer is the voice of Sam, the main lamb character in the new app, that is designed to teach children about wool’s natural story from paddock to apparel.
The fun comic book-styled app is free from the Apple iTunes store and had already been downloaded by more than 3200 users up to this week.
Children can digitally colour-in and share the story of Sam The Lamb while learning the origins of wool and its end uses.
AWI’s head of global marketing Rob Langtry said Sam The Lamb was a simple and fun way to get younger people around the world understanding the natural benefits of wool.
“It’s fun, educational, very Australian and free,” he said.
Sam The Lamb has been launched globally in six languages; English, French, German, Italian, Chinese and Japanese.
Mr Harvey said he was happy to be asked to be the voice of Sam The Lamb.
“My family have been running sheep properties for many years and it’s really great to be able to bring this picture book to life for kids and help them understand about Australian wool.”
In the next few months AWI will also release an iPhone app enabling users to locate wool retailers and brands (ie where to buy wool products). The app will also include details on the benefits of wool, how to care for wool, and include updates on the latest wool news.
Another AWI app in development will advise users on ways to use wool products to save energy costs, depending on the temperature of the user’s current environment.
There is also an iPad app for AWI/Woolmark account managers, containing content (eg videos, brochures, imagery and other promotional collateral) to help them in their work on promoting the benefits of wool in face-to-face meetings with retailers, brands manufacturers etc.
