Call to cool debate on carbon tax

Call to cool debate on carbon tax

28 Mar, 2011 08:17 AM
DEPUTY Prime Minister Wayne Swan has called for an end to ''extreme rhetoric'' after a week of intense mud-slinging from both sides of Parliament.

Mr Swan said the Liberal Party was part of an ''unholy alliance on climate change in this country'' which included the federal opposition, Pauline Hanson, One Nation affiliates and extremist political groups.

Despite calling for calm in parliamentary behaviour, Mr Swan took aim at Opposition Leader Tony Abbott as fanning a political climate of ''fear and intolerance''.

But Mr Abbott decried Mr Swan's comments as ''increasingly shrill and desperate'' in the climate change debate.

Mr Abbott has attracted heavy criticism for addressing an anti-carbon tax rally that featured placards and slogans of Prime Minister Julia Gillard as a ''witch'' and ''Bob Brown's bitch''.

Mr Swan said Mr Abbott had turned scare campaigning into an ''art form''.

Mr Abbott has distanced himself from the placards and ''small minority'' of extremist groups but has continued his call for an election so voters can decide on the proposed carbon tax.

Ms Gillard, he said, had unfairly sidelined millions of Australians who disagreed with the tax as ''extremists''.

Swan - you are a dill. Little is heard of the $42+billion deficit he is running this year or the billion or so being borrowed EACH WEEK. The carbon tax will have almost zero affect on climate but it will help Labor get more money in the spend - and give 10pc to the UN. Why? As for intolerance - of what - incompetance. Is that politically incorrect?

The carbon tax is based on fraud and deceit. Swan and co are complicit in this fraud and want people to bend over and accept some more tax.

Yeah, yeah, Swannie. Just like your non extremist union mates "rhetorically" smashed their way into parliament house. Another Labor bald-faced liar.

You will get your 'time out'.... in the final hours before the next election.

For a negative, conservative, Catholic private-school, university educated, Rhodes scholar, fitness fanatic and policy-free zone, Tony Abbott is an extremist.

The old chestnut favourites cliches about Pauline Hanson & intolerance are old hack.

You know, I long for the day to see leadership govern with integrity & honesty - showing their worth by action rather than words.

Is that possible in the society we live in now?

Deej, I am unable to find ONE politician federally, State or locally who I could single out and state unequivocally, "This person has the best interests of Australia at heart". Once they get admitted to "Cowards Castle", all bets are off. Election promises are yesterday's dust and loyalty to constituents is not trotted out until the next election.

Swan, the entire Gillard gang and the Greens are hyperactive hypocrites.

Are they so dumb as to think we have all forgotten their shameless scaremonger; their terrorising of little children with Gore's horror video & frightening stories about rising seas & endless droughts.

How dare Swan & the whole Gillard gang of scaremongers acuse anyone of "fanning fear & intolerance"

They dare because they have been given the come on by diabolical controvesy merchants like Peter van Onselen who in The Australian on March 26, 2011 alleged that we climate change sceptics & anti-carbon tax activists are all "fringe dwellers".

Well as it turned out, we, via our elected reps, are now central stage in NSW & the Gillard gangs cronies are the fringe dwellers.

Bring on the federal election Mr Swan.

The science is settled, no need for more debate, we've had our conversation, Garnault, Labors' anointed successor to Einstein has adjudicated. We have to have an economy crunching, job destroying tax that ultimately penalises everyone for doing anything, including breathing and Swan quibbles about the rhetoric, give us a break.

I am sick of Julia Gillard, how she is pushing for a carbon tax. This so called problem is non existent. problem. She should go back to the school to study science of the earth and climate.

If it was that simple according to her(warming and CO2), then we all will be doomed. Climate change depends on so many factors and because it is very complicated, we will be ok. Without the carbon, there will be no life on earth.

I recommend a very good book to read about the topic. Ian Plimer "Heaven and Earth"
