To understand the global warming crisis we need to look at the single most important human activity on earth - sustenance. We spend most of our lives working to sustain ourselves - to feed ourselves. How do we do that? We destroy forests, pump toxic waste into our waters, inject 55 billion livestock with hormones and breed them in an unsustainable fashion to create our "food" as well as for the animals we breed. We use chemicals with little care of the long term effects of our actions on our health, the soil, air, waters and ultimately our earth - our wasteful, unsustainable food-producing practices have gone unchecked and thus have taken a toll - we have taken more than we have given back, and now the earth is exploding, revolting, it's sending out clear signals - change your ways or your home will be destroyed. We have to look into the food chain process & all activity associated with it & see how carbon intensive it is & come up with a alternative that is less carbon intensive, sustaining & nurturing both to us & the earth. WE HAVE TO ACT FAST! That is the only quickest & effective way. All other solutions will not be quick enough. Change to a more sustainable diet and living style.

teri, you should get aquainted with how farming is really done in Australia, then have a real good hard look at the propaganda and drivel that is published on line by the anti-farm loony left. You write as if we don't give a rats about the environment, which is rubbish. Australian farmers have more to lose from our changing climate than just about any other group on earth. We live in it, we work in it and rely on it. No-one I know "destroys forests". I personally haven't cut down a tree for years, although we've had a lot fall over from old age so we do a lot of reveg work. As do most people I know. I don't "pump toxic waste into waters" or "inject stock with growth hormones" and no-one I know does either. I have had a chemical users accreditation certificate for 20 years. I only use registered products, and my sprayer has an on board computer and a GPS so I can spray to 99% accuracy. And I get an annual audit done as well. You accuse us of using "wasteful, unsustainable food-producing practices". Like exactly what pray tell? We have adopted many, many soil conservation measures, and my soil has never been better. So get a grip. We are as concerned as you are.
