Harry Potter is back in cinemas. Well, in cinema trailers at least.
Roadshow Films Australia have today released the first look and Harry’s final instalments. That’s a plural, because JK Rowling’s final book in the series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is being described as “a single motion picture event, presented in two parts”.
Think of it as more bang for your buck, though the studio is really just after more bucks for its bang.
Still, millions of Potter fans worldwide await the conclusion to the saga that first hit screens in 2001.
With this first look - well, second if you watched the MTV awards - there are hints for both films. The teaser trailer utilises footage from Parts 1 and 2 and is described by Roadshow as “an announcement for the final chapter of what has become the world's most successful movie franchise ever”.
In fact, the teaser clearly opens with a scene from one of the book's final chapters. Harry, offering himself up to Voldemort in the Forbidden Forest.
While the essential plot elements are known to all who have read the source material, the sixth film Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, from director David Yates, who also helmed the two final instalments, proved the filmmakers are willing to diverge from Rowling’s plot where it suits them.
The teaser promises an epic journey that will answer all unresolved questions and reveal the fate of our beloved characters.
And it also confirms that Harry is embracing new technology. In the words of the trailer:
THE FINALE OF THE WORLDWIDE PHENOMENON
THE MOTION PICTURE EVENT OF A GENERATION
PRESENTED IN 2 PARTS
PART 1 NOVEMBER 2010
PART 2 JULY 2011
HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS
COMPLETE THE JOURNEY IN 3D
There you have it. Three dimensions of Harry. Two films of finale. One teaser trailer to rule them all. Wait, that's the wrong saga.
What do you think? Can’t wait for the 3D Deathly Hallows? Or concerned about plot changes and split storylines?
