Rudd's TV comeback aims to bring home the bacon

21 Jan, 2010 10:48 AM
It's enough to put viewers off their breakfast: the country's most senior politicians are about to invade morning television as both sides ratchet up their soft media profiles in an election year.

The Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd, will revive his appearances on Channel Seven's Sunrise, the program many believe helped him win office, only this time without his former sparring partner, the shadow treasurer, Joe Hockey.

And Channel Nine's Today has announced that the Opposition Leader, Tony Abbott, and the Deputy Prime Minister, Julia Gillard, will go head-to-head in a weekly segment from February 5.

Mr Rudd's office confirmed he would take part in a weekly live segment on Sunrise, the program that made him and Mr Hockey household names.

The pair quit the show in early 2007, before Mr Rudd became Prime Minister, and after a controversy over a staged pre-dawn service on Anzac Day.

The executive director of Sunrise, Adam Boland, said the new segment would allow Mr Rudd to answer questions from members of the public on live television. Mr Rudd would not be warned about the nature of the questions.

Mr Boland said he did not extend the invitation to Mr Abbott because he wanted viewers ''to have a direct line of contact with the person making the decisions. The Opposition Leader is always welcome on Sunrise. I'm not in the business of helping either side of politics.''

Mr Rudd believed it was important to hear the concerns of Australians and remain ''engaged with the community through a range of forums, including community cabinet, web chats and media engagements such as talkback radio and now live talkback television'', a spokeswoman said.

And trust his appearance to be on the Left-friendly, and enormously vacuous, Sunrise! Watching Blondy and Baldy fawn over Rudd - can't wait to give that miss!

Rudd spins better than a rap dancer!

There is a little thing called over exposure and Rudd has reached it. It would be better if the PM sat at his desk and decided what actually is the "most important issue" facing Australians, instead of dreaming up a new one every day.

Kevin took time out the other day, he found himself by a pond he peered into the pond to reflect on his two years in government, he was amazed to see in the pond a reflection not an image of himself. An image of John Howard. He (Kevin) "yelled out in despair! I'm not a mirror image of John Howard, Labor is not just a name change, we are not reflection of the Liberal Party," My Fate is not the same as Howard's End

The tall poppy syndrome is alive and well, from the day Kevin Rudd became the leader of this country the winging thankless loser’s and fence sitters have been vexatious at every corner; so much time, money and energy is wasted on ridicule and trying bring people down; why is the losing team still doing this? Its 2010. Why aren’t they supporting the elected government for the elected term? Think about it; we are on different teams at election time until a result and then we are one team, working smart and working together putting our differences aside and if someone is a standout, come the next election get behind that person and help them be elected. Australia is a blessed country, if you have a worthy cause and are passionate about that cause the masses willingly join in and make it a reality. A multicultural society we may well be, diverse in values and beliefs, this is not an excuse to have a lessor sense of community or not to foster an ethic of patriotism. Out of the many things I love about this great country there are two I cherish most, I do not have to fear retribution for changing the channel and I can leave when I choose. Now that’s “no little thing”.

Rudd a programmed Buffoon I don't believe he has no idea who Jimmy Hendrix is. RUDDS fate same as Howard's end.........Who was shocked? This ECONOMIC crisis has been coming for thirty years. Thirty years of economic dribble from the mouths of the Liberal and Labor politicians. The Country driven into the ground by constant spin, hollow promises, just to get re-elected for the spoils of office, to share in the carve up of lurks and perks. Lurks and Perks only a pirate would have access to,"79,000,000,000 Billion Dollars". No! Executive bonuses equal this amount of indulgence. Kevin A380 fly me to the heavens' wrote seven thousand word essays, on neo-liberalism. "Oh KEVIN how the has fibbed" on the governments benefited from this system, the banks + government+ big end of town have brought us to the brink of world depression. Kevin is making promises he will never keep, writing cheques his body cant cash, in eight years time Rudd will be know as the EXPERIMENT gone wrong. While he sits in a warm seat at the UN, citizens will remember him using profound language to reflect on the Federal Labor Government time in office. While the asinine public continue the cycle of electing t
