Central Districts Field Days' countdown begins

25 Jan, 2012 09:02 AM
The official countdown to the country's biggest regional Field Days has begun.

Manfield Park and the beautiful rural town of Feilding are getting ready to host tens of thousands of visitors flocking to Central Districts Field Days from March 15 to 17.

With more than 500 exhibitors from Australasia lined-up for this year’s event, there will be something for everyone.

Central Districts Field Days event manager Cheryl Riddell said the event caters for all areas of farming yet is still small enough to get around in a day.

But even great things can improve and loyal attendees can expect to see some changes from previous Central Districts Field Days.

Travellers from the south will be able to access car parking through Awahuri to Kawakawa Road. Also, attendees can access the newer entrance and tar-sealed car park from the South Street entrance.

Massey University has returned as the main sponsor.

"Central Districts Field Days are very excited about working closely with Massey University," Ms Riddell said.

"We are proud to be partnered with a University that is helping New Zealand to retain its position as a world agriculture leader."

Massy University, marketing manager, Tracy Pleasants said “Massey University welcomes the opportunity to be the major sponsor of Central District Field Days again in 2012.

“Each year the University provides knowledge and expertise to the primary production sector from farming to international trade.

"Massey promotes the highest standards of research and research-led teaching and university staff members work with businesses and industries to create value in the economy.

“Massey looks forward to joining with the field days community to learn about and show the latest developments,” she said.

CASE IH has also returned again in 2012 to sponsor the Tractor Pull event. With CASE IH's support visitors to Central District Field Days will be able to watch the incredible pulling power of some of the country's most powerful tractors.

The team is looking forward to putting on the Tractor Pull which allows farmers, contractors and tractor enthusiasts to show off the strength of their modified machines, said Ms Riddell.

"After the inaugural Central District’s Field Days Tractor Pull in 2010, then in 2011 -- it is great to be able to build on the event and bring it to the rural community once again."

Part of this year’s competition will be a Business House Tractor Pull on Thursday.

“I hope businesses will take up the challenge to have some fun competition against each other,” Ms Riddell said.

"We couldn’t do it without Case IH’s sponsorship, so obviously we’re really pleased they have decided to return in 2012."

There are plenty of other events to look forward to with the Stihl TimberAcess, Central Districts Double Power Fencing Competition and the National Excavator Competition.

Riddell said the Lifestyle Pavilion; the clothing and outdoor furniture exhibits are very popular with women visiting the Central Districts Field Days. “We try to have something for women while the men are out and about.”

The big rural prize up for grabs at this year’s Central Districts Field Days is a Suzuki ATV and Brent Smith trailer filled with goodies. This competition, which had thousands of entries last year, is open to anyone with a rural delivery address and the winning entry form will be drawn on the final afternoon of the event.

Gates open from 8.30am each day until 4.30pm on Thursday and Friday. Gates will close at 4pm on the Saturday. Admission fee is $12 for adults; $9 for seniors on Thursday and Friday only. Children under 16 years, accompanied by an adult, get in for free.
