Organics Aotearoa New Zealand chief executive will be taking up a new position as CEO of the Wood Processors Association.
Dr Jon Tanner, who has been OANZ CEO since November 2007, will take on his new role effective August 17, with OANZ's chair, Derek Broadmore, stepping into a new role as executive chair.
Mr Broadmore thanked Dr Tanner for his work at OANZ, saying that he has done an excellent job of putting organics firmly on New Zealand's national agenda.
"Jon's scientific backgrounds, along with his management skills and professional networks, have been an immeasurable help in shifting organics to the forefront of consumer awareness and public policy", Mr Broadmore said.
"As the organic sector continues to grow, its demands on OANZ as the umbrella body are also changing.
"Many of the functions OANZ has traditionally undertaken are now able to be managed by our member organizations, or by the many associations, businesses and individuals who are involved in organics.
"Accordingly, OANZ has initiated an Organic Working Group, to report back in November, with recommendations addressing the ongoing form of the organization.
"While this group is consulting, OANZ will continue to operate as the single, unified point of contact for New Zealand's organic sector, representing farmers and growers, certifiers, traders, Maori, community and other groups.
"OANZ also continues its role as the national ‘voice' of organics.
"As Executive Chair I will manage OANZ's permanent, professional executive office, while dedicating more of my own time to ensure the continuing development of organics in New Zealand.
"The OANZ Board appreciates Jon's work on behalf of the organic sector, and wishes him well for the future, as he moves on to fresh challenges", Mr Broadmore said.
