Danes takes home Pudding award

28 Jan, 2012 04:00 AM

Actress Claire Danes, who has won a Golden Globe, has become the recipient of another award. A little-known Pudding pot award has been handed to Danes by the students of Harvard University.

Danes was named the 2012 Hasty Pudding Theatricals Woman of the Year. People who live outside Boston and know nothing of the theatre might never have heard of the awards, which each year draw famous actors to Cambridge, Massachusetts, where they are teased about their bad roles, then paraded down through Harvard Square.

Danes, no stranger to awards, won her third Golden Globe award recently for her role as CIA agent Carrie Mathison on the new series Homeland, the second episode of which screens in Australia on Channel Ten tomorrow night. Danes won a Golden Globe, an Emmy and a Screen Actors Guild award last year for her work on the HBO movie Temple Grandin, about a woman with autism who revolutionised practices for the humane handling of livestock on cattle ranches and in slaughterhouses.

Past women Puddings winners include Julianne Moore, Anne Hathaway, Renee Zellweger, Charlize Theron, Scarlett Johansson, Meryl Streep and Elizabeth Taylor.
